POTATO DAYS FESTIVAL BARNESVILLE, MINNESOTA
POTATO DAYS FESTIVAL BARNESVILLE, MINNESOTA
The weekend extravaganza is located in Barnesville, Minnesota. Our town is about 25 miles Southeast of the Fargo-Moorhead area right off of I-94. (Scroll down for a map)
Shops and booths run along Front Street. The main stage, seating, and food court can be found at the juncture of Front Street and 2nd Avenue Southeast.
In 2024 Potato Days will happen Friday August 23rd from 10am to 10pm and Saturday August 24th from 7am to 1am.
The modern era of this celebration arose in 1991, but the origins of this event date all the way back to 1931.
Some of the main sources of motivation for this festival are to make memories, strengthen relationships, support local pillars, indulge in some tasty food, and have some good old fashion fun.
This gathering also signifies our ties to the past and honors the traditions and foundation laid down before us.
There is food, shopping, games, activities, contests, and entertainment for all to enjoy. No matter your age or taste, we are confident that you will find something that brings a smile to your face. It really is an ideal family outing.
This festival requires a great deal of year-round planning and coordination from director Missie Goheen and her assistant Kari Wilson as well as the Potato Days board. There are also quite a few other individuals who selflessly volunteer their time and effort. Without the support of sponsors and private donors there would not be enough resources to make this such an epic weekend. All attendees and patrons are contributing just by participating. Many thanks are in order.

Old fashioned fun awaits in Barnesville, Minnesota as the lowly spud takes center stage for the annual Potato Days Festival. Touted as one of the best potato producing areas in the country, Barnesville is proud to celebrate their potato heritage with two days of "spud"tacular excitement.
A perfect weekend getaway, the entire family will enjoy bushels of activities from sunrise to sunset. The festival, originally dating back to the late 30's, combines some of the more traditional fare with a new millennium twist. There's something for everyone, from the nostalgic Potato Picking and Peeling Contests to the updated Miss Tator Tot Pageant and the specialized art of Mashed Potato Sculpturing.
Besides a wild assortment of potato-theme contests, games and displays on the slate, the Potato Days Festival also boasts an "a-peeling" menu of potato favorites. The Norwegian influence is evident in the "spud"riffic smorgasbord which includes lefse, potato dumplings, potato sausage, baked potatoes, and potato pancakes. In addition, participants are invited to display their culinary talents as part of the National Lefse Cookoff.
Rated as one of the best festivals in the country by US News and World Reports, the Barnesville Potato Days Festival truly captures small town American at its finest!
What particularly stands out in the eyes of visitors from across the country is the festival's allegiance to its namesake...potatoes. Virtually everything you could possibly use a potato for is done over the two days...pick it, peel it, fry it, race it, bake it; but most of all enjoy it! One visit and we're sure that you'll agree, "It's a smashing good time!"
